CARROLLTON, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville women's team picked up a conference victory on Saturday, traveling to West Georgia and winning 6-3. The Chargers improve to 5-2 on the season overall and move to 3-1 in Gulf South Conference action.

The Chargers took a 2-1 lead in the match after doubles play as the No. 3 pairing of
Cristina Cabanas and
Mariana Lopez picked up an 8-0 victory, while
Sarah Stearman joined up with
Stefanie Mehlich for an 8-1 win at the top spot.

In singles play, Stearman at No. 3 picked up her second 6-0, 6-0 win of the year, while Cabanas won 6-0, 6-2 at the second. Mehlich was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at the top position, and Lopez earned a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at the No. 4.

It was Lopez's victory that sealed the match for the Chargers.

Marilene van Beek was winning 3-2 in the opening set of her match at the fifth spot, but she had to retire to give UWG one of its three points.

The Chargers will now be off until Saturday when the team welcomes Mississippi College. The match on the UAH campus is slated for a 12 p.m. start.
