HEADING TO THE POSTSEASON: UAH (11-21-2) is set for the program's second WCHA playoff series since joining the league in 2013-14, as the seventh-seeded Chargers will face off against second-seeded Northern Michigan (21-12-3) in a best-of-three game series this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Berry Events Center in Marquette, Michigan. Puck drops at 6:07 p.m. CT for each game.

NEW HARDWARE: The WCHA introduced this week the Jeff Sauer WCHA Championship Trophy, which is to be awarded each season to the WCHA Postseason Tournament Champion, beginning with the upcoming 2018 league playoffs and championship. The only WCHA head coach with 30 years behind the bench, Sauer is the league's all-time winningest coach with 665 victories – the 10th most in NCAA men's hockey history. Additionally, Sauer coached in 12 NCAA tournaments, advancing to the Frozen Four on three occasions and winning the 1983 and 1990 national championships with Wisconsin.

SERIES HISTORY: The Chargers and Wildcats have already met each other a total of four times in the 2017-18 season, with the two teams splitting the series in Marquette on Dec. 1-2 and also the series in Huntsville on Feb. 3-4. Overall in the series history which dates back to a 2003 matchup, UAH is 6-13-3 all-time against NMU and 3-8-1 when visiting the Wildcats.

LOOKING BACK: UAH is in the WCHA playoffs for the first time since the 2014-15 campaign, in which the Chargers fell in two games to Michigan Tech on March 13-14. In the series-opening, three-overtime loss, former UAH goaltender
Carmine Guerriero totaled a WCHA record 76 saves over 118 minutes of play.

RECENT ACTION: UAH wrapped up the regular season this past weekend at the Von Braun Center with a series split against No. 15 Bowling Green, as the Chargers took the opener 3-2 before falling in the series finale 3-0. The Chargers ended the home slate with a 6-7-1 record at the VBC, giving the squad its most home wins since 2005-06 when the Chargers went 11-1-0 in the Rocket City.

HOMETOWN LEADER: Huntsville native
Josh Kestner scored his team-leading 21st goal of the season on Friday to maintain a tie for first in the conference in goals scored. Kestner – who is sixth in the program's modern Division I era with 41 career goals – enters the WCHA playoffs with a team-high and career-best 28 points from an additional seven assists.

TOP HELPER: Tyler Poulsen registered his 15th assist of the season in the series-opener against Bowling Green, keeping the junior second on the roster with 24 points with nine goals also under his belt in 2017-18. Poulsen has doubled his career point total in just this season with his 24 points (9g-15a) after posting 12 points (6g-6a) in his first two seasons at UAH.

CAREER YEARS: A total of seven returning Chargers have either matched or topped their previous career-high point total, including Kestner (21-7—28), Poulsen (9-15—24),

JUNIORS PRODUCING: The UAH juniors have led all Charger classes so far this season with 86 points from 28 goals and 58 assists, ranking tied for 17th amongst NCAA Division I junior classes. UAH's third-year players are led by Poulsen's 24 points (9g-15a), followed by defenseman
Kurt Gosselin with 15 points on five goals and a career-high 10 assists.

BETWEEN THE PIPES: Jordan Uhelski has started a total of 29 times for the Chargers this season, after making both starts this past weekend and combining for a total of 58 saves over two games. Uhelski enters the weekend with a 11-16-2 record in goal, while ranking fifth in the WCHA with a .911 save percentage and accruing 858 saves to rank second amongst league netminders.

WILDCATS PROFILE: Northern Michigan finished with 61 league points in the regular season to earn the second seed in the WCHA playoffs under first-year head coach Grant Potulny after totaling an overall record of 21-12-3 and a 19-7-2 mark in league play. The Wildcats offense features four players with 30 points or more this season, including Adam Rockwood (8-30—8), Troy Loggins (17-20—37), Darien Craighead (17-15—32) and Philip Beaulieu (9-22—31). Atte Tolvanen has played the majority of time in goal for NMU with a 2.41 goals against average and a .905 save percentage.
