VALDOSTA, Ga. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville tennis teams started their spring break trip to the Peach State on Sunday, with the women's team falling 6-2 to Valdosta State while the men lost 7-2. The women are now 6-6 (4-4 Gulf South Conference), while the men are 5-10 (3-6 GSC).
Â
In the women's match, UAH put forth a strong effort in a match that was much closer than the final score would indicate.
Â
Valdosta State took two of the three doubles points, winning at the top spot by a slim 8-6 margin and at the third position where UAH's injuries prevented the team from fielding a complete pairing. The No. 2 pairing of
Cristina Cabanas and

Â
 In singles play,
Monika Polakovic gave UAH its second point as she was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at the No. 5.
Â
VSU earned the point at the fourth position where Lopez had dropped the opening set 6-3 but was ahead 4-1 in the second before retiring, and the No. 3 position which featured
Sarah Stearman was tied at 6-6 in the third before being left unfinished.
Â
In the men's contest, VSU took the three doubles points, but UAH was especially strong at the second position where
James Caddies and
Noah Pring fell by a tight 9-7 score.
Â
In singles action the Chargers had Caddies pick up a comfortable 6-0, 6-3 win at the No. 5, while
Dylan Hall bounced back from a 6-4 setback in the opening set to win 6-1, 10-8.
Â
