Florida Southern Wins Over UAH on Wednesday

Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team fell on the road on Wednesday, dropping a 16-9 decision at Florida Southern. The Chargers slip to 6-5 on the season, while FSC improves to 6-3.
 
Turning Point
-The Mocs jumped out to a 13-1 lead at the half, allowing them to hang on for the victory despite being outscored by UAH 8-3 in the third and fourth quarters.
 
Inside the Box Score
-James Cox paced the Chargers with a pair of goals, and he was one of a group of four players that had multiple points in the game for UAH led by Kevin Coppinger who had a three-assist outing.
-Rounding out those with a multi-point performance were Jack Utrevis and Adam Zois who both had a goal and an assist in the game.
-UAH's other goals came from Luke LeVette, Emory Weaver, Colton Nall, John Forrest Ruble, and Jacob Glen, while Nicholas Ranta added an assist for the Chargers.
-Nik Kubik picked up a team-best eight ground balls and won 10 face-offs, while each of Tiernan Hart, Daimon Olsen, Coppinger, and LeVette caused two turnovers.
-Making nine saves in goal for UAH was Zak Welsh.
-For the contest, FSC outshot the Chargers by a 51-26 margin.
-The Chargers went 19-for-24 in clear attempts, while the hosts were 18-for-21.
 
Inside the Flow
-FSC scored the first three goals of the game, and though LeVette would score a man-up tally at the 7:10 mark of the first quarter, the hosts would score the remaining goals of the first and second quarters to snag a 13-1 lead at the half.
-Florida Southern had the first goal of the third quarter before unassisted tallies by Utrevis, Glen, and Zois made it a 14-4 game with 9:04 left in the third quarter.
-The Mocs then scored the next two go up by 12, but the visitors scored the last goal of the third and the only four of the fourth to create the 16-9 final.
 
Noteworthy
-The second two-goal game for Cox gives him 10 goals on the season while making him the sixth Charger to reach double figures in scores.
-The three assists for Coppinger is a season-high for the junior, and he now owns 30 points on the year.
-Kubik's ground ball total on the season now stands at 54.
 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers will be off until April 7 when the team returns to GLVC play with a trip to Montevallo that is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
