HUNTSVILLE | In its first year of conference affiliation, The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse team will play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament this weekend, opening up play as the No. 3 seed and taking on second-seeded Indianapolis at 6:30 p.m. CDT on Friday on the Indianapolis campus.

The Chargers enter the game at 8-6 and earned the No. 3 seed after posting a 3-2 record in conference play, while UIndy is 7-5 overall and went 4-1 in GLVC action.

When the two teams met earlier in the season in the Hoosier State, the Greyhounds were 14-4 winners, though UAH was without top goal scorer
Luke LeVette in that contest.

LeVette leads the Chargers with 32 goals in the regular season, and his 2.91 goals per game mark represents the top performance in the GLVC, and he is joined in the top 10 in the league in points on the year by UAH leader
Kevin Coppinger who has 37 on the season to enter the tournament ranked seventh in the league.

LeVette's 36 points have him eighth in the league.

Coppinger has accrued his team-best 37 points from 22 goals and 15 assists, and his regular season assist total is the sixth-best mark in the conference.

The Chargers also feature two of the top five in the league in ground balls as
Nik Kubik ranks second with 4.43 per game, while
Colton Nall has averaged 4.0 per contest to sit fourth in the conference.

The Greyhounds are led offensively by Parker Kump who has 40 points from 33 goals and seven assists, and he scored twice in the Indianapolis win back on March 21. Matt Schoeneck also had a big day for UIndy in that contest, scoring three times and adding a pair of assists for a five-point day.

The Chargers berth into the inaugural GLVC tournament comes in the program's third year, and the team has seen marked improved in each season, setting a high in wins this year with the eight while also ensuring the program of its first winning record. The team has improved steadily offensively, raising its goal total to 153 from 146 a year ago, and its goals against has dropped 20 from last year, permitting the opposition just 130 in 2018.

The winner of Friday's contest will take on the winner of top-seeded Young Harris and No. 4 seed Maryville in the championship game on Sunday at noon.
