BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference unveiled its weekly volleyball honorees on Tuesday morning, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by Shayla Libby as GSC Defensive Player of the Week.

This is Libby's first weekly honor from the GSC.

Libby paced the Chargers defense with 56 digs and a 5.09 digs per set average over three matches against West Florida, Christian Brothers and Union this past week.

Additionally, Libby did not commit a single reception error in 60 total attempts and helped the squad limit opponents to hitting percentages of .230 or lower in two of the week's three matches.

Overall this season, Libby boasts a team-best 190 digs and a 3.73 digs per set average as she ranks 10th in the league in both statistical categories.

The Chargers hit the road this weekend for a pair of matches, beginning on Friday at 6 p.m. CT at Lee.
