UAH Garners Program's Most All-GSC Honorees Since 2004 Campaign

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference unveiled its 2019 volleyball season awards, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team was represented by Isabelle Barnes and Abby Brooks as First Team All-GSC as well as Kendall Scharbert as Second Team All-GSC.
 
Barnes records her second straight First Team All-GSC honor, while both Brooks and Scharbert collect their first all-conference awards. This is the most All-GSC awardees from UAH since the 2004 campaign.
 
A native of Madison, Alabama, Barnes has been a leader on both sides of the ball for the Chargers again this season as she leads the GSC with 142 total blocks and is fifth in the conference with a team-best .311 hitting percentage. Barnes additionally ranks second on the roster with a career-high 320 kills in 2019.
 
Brooks has put together a career year in her junior campaign with a roster-best 328 kills and 2.67 kills per set average, as she also boasts 313 digs to rate second on the team. This season, the Huntsville native has accumulated eight double-doubles with digs and kills.
 
Scharbert was also a strong presence on both offense and defense in her sophomore season, ranking in the top four on the roster with 201 kills, a .297 hitting percentage and 78 total blocks. Scharbert's .297 hitting percentage rates sixth overall in the GSC entering the conference tournament this weekend.
 
The Chargers look ahead to the 2019 Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championships in Pensacola, Florida, on the campus of No. 1 seed West Florida this weekend. As the second seed, UAH has a bye in the initial two rounds of the tournament before a 4:30 p.m. matchup on Saturday against the winner of Auburn Montgomery/Valdosta State and West Georgia.
