UPDATE: West Georgia won the second-round matchup against Auburn Montgomery, as UAH and UWG will now match up in the GSC tournament semifinals at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
PENSACOLA, Fla. | The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball opens play at the 2019 Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championships on the campus of No. 1 seed West Florida on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. against the winner of Auburn Montgomery/Valdosta State and West Georgia.

The GSC tournament begins on Friday with an opening-round matchup between Auburn Montgomery and Valdosta State at 1:30 p.m., and the winner of that game will play West Georgia at 6:30 p.m. to decide UAH's opponent in the semifinals on Saturday.

The Chargers - who are currently ranked seventh in the South Region - enter the GSC tournament as the No. 2 seed after posting a 14-2 conference record as part of a 24-8 overall record in the 2019 campaign. UAH has now registered at least 23 wins in each of the past three seasons.

This will be the program's 19th appearance in the GSC tournament and the third straight under head coach
Dr. Cade Smith, following the squad's run to the semifinals a year ago.

The league released its 2019 season awards earlier this week, and UAH was represented by First Team All-GSC honorees
Isabelle Barnes and
Abby Brooks as well as Second Team selection
Kendall Scharbert.

Barnes notched her second career All-GSC honor after posting a team-high .311 hitting percentage on 320 kills to go along with a league-leading 142 total blocks.

Brooks paces the roster with 328 kills and is second on the roster with 313 digs, while Scharbert boasts a .297 hitting percentage on 201 kills and 78 total blocks.

The winner between UAH and the yet-to-be-determined opponent on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. will advance to the GSC Championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
