BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference unveiled its academic awards for the 2019 spring season, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville garnered eight 2019 GSC Spring All-Academic Team selections and a total of 94 GSC Honor Roll recipients.
Â
GSC All-Academic Teams are selected by the Gulf South Conference Sports Information Directors (SIDs) and Faculty Athletic Representatives (FARs) in a joint vote. Nominees must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or better on a 4.00 scale for their entire academic career and may not be freshmen or first-semester or quarter transfers. The student-athlete must be a significant contributor to the squad.
Â
Other factors include leadership, community service and extra-curricular activities. SIDs and FARs are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. The number of student-athletes selected in each sport is determined by the number of positions normally involved in the playing of that sport. Ties are not broken.
Â
Trevian Jenkins (3.64 GPA, electrical engineering) – a GSC Top Ten Award winner – represented UAH men's track & field with his second career GSC All-Academic honor, as he was joined by teammate
Hunter Nails (3.94 GPA, aerospace engineering) to give the program two all-academic awardees.
Â
The Chargers women's lacrosse team also notched a pair of GSC All-Academic honorees including
Kinta Schott (3.41 GPA, kinesiology) and
Sophia Fiorino (3.32 GPA, electrical engineering).
Â
Also garnering GSC All-Academic honors from UAH includes baseball's
Nolan Ramsey (3.85 GPA, management), men's tennis's
Timo Christen (3.99 GPA, chemistry), women's tennis's Stefanie Melich (3.94 GPA, earth science systems), and women's track & field's
Erin Jewell (3.37 GPA, management).
Â
