LEXINGTON, Ky. | The American Volleyball Coaches Association announced its 2018-19 AVCA Team Academic Awards, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was one of 141 NCAA Division II teams to garner the honor.
Â
This is the third straight season UAH has earned an AVCA Team Academic Award.
Â
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
Â
The Chargers roster from the 2018-19 academic year featured a total of 15 Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll recipients, as the squad also boasted a 23-11 overall record and reached the GSC tournament semifinals for the first time since 2012.
Â
UAH opens the 2019 campaign on Sept. 6 at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall with nonconference matches slated against Lees-McRae and West Georgia.
