Smith Steps Down from Volleyball Role to Focus on AD Position

10/27/2020 3:09:00 PM

HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville Director of Athletics Dr. Cade Smith has announced that he has stepped down as the program's head volleyball coach to focus on his duties leading the department.

A search for Smith's replacement will begin immediately.

Smith had served as the head coach since 2016 and turned in three consecutive 20-win seasons including a 24-10 mark in 2019 which saw UAH earn its first NCAA tournament berth since 2005. The Chargers had three all-GSC choices on the squad, representing the most all-league performers since the 2004 season.

Since 2016, Smith's teams featured six all-GSC honorees, two all-south region choices, a CoSIDA Academic All-American, three CoSIDA Academic All-District performers, five GSC all-academic selections, and 60 GSC Honor Roll recipients.

In total, Smith was 86-48 while leading the Chargers.

Named the Interim Director of Athletics in June of 2019, Smith became UAH's fifth AD on April 7 of this year.
