HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey program has announced its revised schedule for the 2020-21 campaign which features a total of nine Western Collegiate Hockey Association home games at the Von Braun Center.
In addition to state and local health and safety guidelines in force at each WCHA campus, the 2020-21 schedule will play out under the WCHA's Return to Competition protocols. Those protocols will include COVID-19 testing for student-athletes, coaches, staff and game officials as well as social-distancing requirements at all WCHA arenas.
Â
The Chargers start off the 2020-21 season – the first campaign under head coach
Lance West – with a total of seven road games, beginning with a trip to former-College Hockey America foe Robert Morris for games on Nov. 20-21.
Â
UAH then continues play at Ferris State for a single contest on Dec. 4, prior to a two-game set at Lake Superior State on Dec. 6-7 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. All three of those games will be nonconference contests.
Â
WCHA action starts immediately in the New Year on Jan. 1-2 with a series in Houghton, Michigan, at Michigan Tech, as the Chargers will then return home to the Rocket City on Jan. 8-9 for the home-opening series at the Von Braun Center against Ferris State.
Â
UAH continues to alternate home and away for the next four weekends with a trip to Bemidji State on Jan. 15-16 before a home set on Jan. 22-23 with Northern Michigan. The Chargers then head to Alaska for a Jan. 29-30 series prior to UAH hosting Alaska Anchorage in Huntsville on Feb. 5-6.
Â
The Chargers remain at home the following week with a Thursday-Friday series against Minnesota State on Feb. 11-12 before heading to Lake Superior State on Feb. 19-20 for the penultimate road contests.
Â
UAH and Bowling Green split a home-and-home series during the final week of the regular season with a game at BGSU on Feb. 24 prior to the final game of the campaign on Feb. 27 at the Von Braun Center.
The format for the 2021 WCHA Postseason Tournament will be determined in the coming weeks. The postseason will play out over the weekends of March 12-13 and March 19-20.Â
The postseason tournament winner will receive an automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship and the Jeff Sauer WCHA Championship Trophy, presented by Anderson's Pure Maple Syrup.
All UAH hockey home games will be 7 p.m. start times, with the exception of the Bowling Green contest on Feb. 27 which will have a 2 p.m. puck drop.Â
