HUNTSVILLE | The Hockey Commissioners Association and the Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced their first monthly award winners of the 2020-21 campaign, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by
Tyrone Bronte as HCA National Rookie of the Month and WCHA Rookie of the Month.
He is the program's first national and conference rookie of the month in the team's WCHA era.
A native of Melbourne, Australia, Bronte led the Chargers offense with three assists in the season-opening series at Robert Morris on Nov. 21-22, while tying for the roster lead in points with three.
His +2 rating on the ice during the series tied for the roster lead and is ranked tied for 13th amongst NCAA Division I freshmen currently. He is additionally one of two NCAA Division I freshmen to have an average of 1.50 assists per game entering this weekend.
Bronte's three assists in a weekend are the most by a UAH player in a weekend series since both
Austin Beaulieu and
Kurt Gosselin had three assists between Jan. 18-19, 2019 against Alaska Anchorage.
Bronte joined the UAH hockey program this fall, following three consecutive seasons with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights of the North American Hockey League, where he appeared in 155 career games with the Knights, posting 41 goals and 75 assists for 116 points. He had a career-high 48 points on 12 goals and 36 assists in 2019-20 as the squad's captain.
UAH recently changed the team's upcoming three game schedule in the state of Michigan, as the Chargers face Lake Superior State on Saturday and Sunday followed by a single game at Ferris State on Tuesday. All three contests are nonconference games.
