BLOOMINGTON, Minn. | The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced its Scholar-Athletes and its All-Academic Team for the 2019-20 season, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by seven WCHA Scholar-Athletes and 12 WCHA All-Academic Team members.

The Chargers WCHA Scholar-Athletes for the 2019-20 campaign include
Austin Beaulieu,
Bailey Newton,
Sean Rappleyea,
Teddy Rotenberger,
Tyr Thompson and
Connor Wood.

Both Rappleyea and Rotenberger garner the honor for the third time in their careers, while Beaulieu collects his second WCHA Scholar-Athlete nod. This is the first time Newton, Thompson and Wood have earned the distinction.

The WCHA Scholar-Athlete Award was developed through member institution Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the conference membership for the 2005-06 season. To earn recognition as a WCHA Scholar-Athlete, conference-member student-athletes must have completed at least one year of residency at their present institution prior to the current academic year and must also have a grade-point average of at least 3.50 on a 4.0 scale for the previous two semesters or three quarters. A candidate may also qualify if his overall GPA is at least 3.50 for all terms at his present institution.

To be eligible for a WCHA All-Academic Team selection, a student-athlete must have completed one year of eligibility at his present institution prior to the current academic year with a grade point average of 3.0 or above for the prior two semesters or three quarters, or may qualify if his overall GPA is 3.0 or better for all terms at his present institution.
