HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville announced the resignation of hockey head coach
Mike Corbett on Wednesday following seven seasons at the helm of the program.
Â
Assistant coach
Gavin Morgan has also resigned to pursue other opportunities in hockey.
Â
Lance West will stay on board as the program's acting head coach.
Â
"We're thankful for the time and contributions to our hockey program and university from both Mike and Gavin while they've been here at UAH," said UAH Director of Athletics
Dr. Cade Smith. "We certainly wish them the best in their future endeavors. As we move towards the future, we're confident in Lance and look forward to his leadership and what he continues to bring to this program."
Â
Corbett was hired as the fifth head coach in UAH hockey history prior to the program's first season in the WCHA in 2013-14, and he is the second-longest tenured head coach in program history.
Â
During his time at UAH, Corbett has coached one WCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year, two All-WCHA honorees, one WCHA All-Rookie awardee, three CoSIDA Academic All-District performers and a total of 44 WCHA Scholar-Athletes.
Â
Additionally, the Chargers reached the WCHA playoffs three times during Corbett's tenure in Huntsville.
Â
Prior to his time at UAH, Corbett spent 10 years as an assistant coach at Air Force and played collegiately from 1992-97 at Denver.
