HUNTSVILLE | The University of Alabama in Huntsville Department of Athletics and Director of Athletics
Dr. Cade Smith have announced the hiring of Connor Doyle to serve as the program's head men's lacrosse coach.
Â
"We are excited to welcome Connor into the Charger family," Dr. Smith said on Thursday. "Connor comes highly recommended, and during the search process, it became clear that he possesses all the traits we are looking for in a leader of our young men. We look forward to his leadership of our program as we transition into the Peach Belt Conference for the upcoming season."
Â
Doyle comes to Huntsville after spending three seasons at in-state foe Montevallo.
Â
"I want to thank Cade Smith and the search committee for the opportunity to serve as the men's lacrosse coach here at UAH," said Doyle. "I am extremely excited to become the second coach in the program's history and to lead this team into the future. I hope to build on the success of the past years, and by working together as a family, I have no doubt that we will achieve great things."
Â
In two seasons at Montevallo, Doyle served as the team's defensive coordinator and helped coach seven GLVC all-conference selections and the GLVC Goalkeeper of the Year in 2018 and 2019. His day-to-day responsibilities in addition to coordinating the defense included film breakdown, practice planning, player development, creating scouting reports, implementing a strength and conditioning plan, and monitoring student-athlete academic progress.
Â
Ensuring that his student-athletes were also impactful off the field, Doyle coordinated the team's community service efforts that saw the group log over 6,000 hours of volunteer work.
Â
Prior to his time at Montevallo, Doyle was an assistant for one season at Huntingdon following a stint at St. Mary's College of Maryland. Doyle's first collegiate job was at Shorter where he served first as a graduate assistant before climbing the ranks to ultimately serving as the interim head coach in 2015.
Â
Doyle earned his bachelor's degree in sport management from Belmont Abbey in 2013 and also owns a master's in business administration from Shorter which he received in 2015.
