EDMONTON | Former UAH hockey standout Cam Talbot has helped lead his Calgary Flames into the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs after the squad defeated Canadian rival Winnipeg in a heated qualifying round series.
Â
Talbot's Flames won Thursday night 4-0 with the former Charger netminder making 31 stops in the elimination contest to give the Flames a 3-1 series victory.
Â
"This is one step in the big picture," Talbot said following the victory. "We knew this was going to be a hard-fought series. We're going to be battle tested now. Guys in this room gained some valuable playoff experience in this round."
Â
In the four games, Talbot was quite strong as he posted a 1.51 goals against average and a .945 save percentage. In advanced analytics, he had a 66 percent goals allowed percentage which is the percentage of goals allowed compared to the league average (for reference, 100 is average and a lower number is better), and Talbot owned a 3.11 goals saved above average which measures the goals prevented given his save percentage and shots faced versus the league average save percentage on the same number of shots.
Â
This is Talbot's third foray in the NHL postseason, and his first since he helped lead Edmonton into the conference semifinals in 2017. He has appeared in 19 postseason contests including 17 starts, and he owns a 10-8 record in the playoffs.
Â
The conference quarterfinals will be reseeded, so Calgary's next opponent is yet to be determined.
