1/11/2021 2:00:00 PM

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. | The Western Collegiate Hockey Association announced its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by Dayne Finnson as WCHA Defenseman of the Week and Tyrone Bronte as WCHA Rookie of the Week.

This is the second time this season that Finnson and Bronte have earned a weekly WCHA honor.

A native of Arborg, Manitoba, Finnson was the hero of the Chargers opening-night victory as the junior scored the game-winning goal in overtime of the 5-4 win over Ferris State on Friday.

Finnson finished the series with three points on one goal and two assists to rank tied for first amongst WCHA defensemen over the weekend. All three of Finnson's points came on the power play, which were the most of any WCHA defenseman this past weekend.

Bronte – who hails from Melbourne, Australia – paced all WCHA freshman in games over the past week as he also had a three-point weekend on two goals and one assist.

Each of his three points came on the power play during the series against Ferris State, and he is now tied for first amongst league rookies with a team-high seven points on three goals and four assists in 2020-21.

The Chargers are back on the road this Friday and Saturday at rival Bemidji State. Puck drops at 7:07 p.m. on Friday, before a 6:07 p.m. game time on Saturday.
