HUNTSVILLE | Head coach Connor Doyle and The University of Alabama in Huntsville men's lacrosse program announce the hiring of Joe Turner to be the team's new assistant coach.

Turner comes to Huntsville after spending four seasons at Wingate.

"I'm very happy to welcome Joe to our program as the first full-time assistant coach in program history," said head men's lacrosse coach Connor Doyle. "He brings quality and experience not only as a high-caliber player during his collegiate career but also as a proven coach and recruiter. I was especially interested in Joe's ability to successfully handle various aspects of any program. I know he will be a great role model for our players, both on and off the field, showing them how to not only be successful student-athletes but also successful people."

While at Wingate, Turner served as the program's offensive coordinator, recruiting coordinator, and social media coordinator, and he helped lead the team to three straight South Atlantic Conference championships from 2017-19. In 2017 and 2019, the team reached the NCAA tournament, and under his mentorship, the pgoram featured three USILA All-Americans, a SAC Player of the Year, and 13 all-conference choices.

Stops prior to Wingate for Turner included two years at his alma mater Dowling and a pair of seasons at St. Thomas.

As a player at Dowling, he helped his team reach a pair of NCAA tournaments including winning the Division II national championship in 2012, and he served as a team captain during his senior season.
