BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its final weekly volleyball award winners of 2021 on Tuesday morning, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team was represented by
Shayla Libby as GSC Defensive Player of the Week and
Kendall Scharbert as GSC Offensive Player of the Week

This is Libby's third career GSC Defensive Player of the Week award, while Scharbert notches her first career GSC weekly honor.

A native of Niceville, Florida, Libby led the Chargers defense overall over two GSC home wins over the weekend to wrap up the 2021 regular season, as the junior put up 40 digs including a weekend-high 23 scoops in Friday's five-set victory over Mississippi College.

After the win over Mississippi College, Libby posted 17 digs over three sets to give her a team-leading total of 403 digs in the 2021 season. She has averaged 3.99 digs per set this campaign, which ranks ninth in the GSC.

Scharbert had one of the most outstanding offensive weekends in program history this past Friday and Saturday night, as she accumulated a team-leading 42 kills on a .415 hitting percentage to go along with a roster-best 10 total blocks.

The Birmingham, Alabama, native started the weekend on Friday against Mississippi College with a rally scoring era program record 26 kills with a .353 hitting percentage before posting 16 kills with zero errors for a .516 swing rate on Saturday against West Alabama. Scharbert now boasts 247 kills on a team-best .329 hitting percentage in 2021, which ranks fifth in the GSC.

UAH looks ahead to the start of the 2021 Gulf South Conference Volleyball Championships as the No. 2 seed in the league tournament which will be held at No. 1 seed West Florida. As the No. 2 seed, the Chargers have received a bye to the semifinals on Saturday.
