BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly award winners on Tuesday morning, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by
Kody Keiser as GSC Pitcher of the Week and
Carson Villalta as GSC Freshman of the Week.

This is Keiser's first career GSC Pitcher of the Week award, while Villalta has been named GSC Freshman of the Week twice in 2021.

A native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Keiser led the Chargers to the series-clinching win over Delta State on Sunday, as he hurled 9.0 shutout innings with two hits allowed and five strikeouts. He faced the minimum in six of his nine innings on the mound, while limiting DSU to a .071 batting average with zero extra-base hits in the game.

In his past two starts, Keiser has hurled 15.2 innings with zero earned runs allowed, six hits and 11 strikeouts.

Villalta – who hails from Florence, Alabama - posted a team-high .500 batting average (5-for-10) and .800 slugging percentage in the series at Delta State, as he rated tied for first on the team with three doubles.

Overall in 2021, Villalta is second amongst UAH regulars with a .348 batting average while notching eight doubles, two homers, 13 RBI and 11 walks.

UAH has four games on the schedule this week to wrap up the regular season, beginning on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Hoover, Alabama, against West Alabama in nonconference action.
