4/29/2021 9:44:00 AM

HUNTSVILLE | The NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Committee unveiled an updated list of teams under consideration for the 2021 Women's Lacrosse South Regional, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville is one of six teams featured in the committee's announcement.

For this year, the committee is not releasing actual rankings at this time, instead just releasing the six teams that are in the mix for what will be a three-field team.

UAH is under consideration for the NCAA South Regional for the first time in program history, as the South Region consists of the Gulf South Conference, Sunshine State Conference, Conference Carolinas and Peach Belt Conference for women's lacrosse.

The regional is slated to take place on May 14 & 16 in Lakeland, Florida, as Florida Southern was selected to host the tournament for the fourth time since the 2016 campaign.

The Chargers are coming off their second straight GSC Championship with a 17-6 victory over Young Harris at Charger Park on Sunday, giving the squad a 12-3 overall record and a 7-2 mark against regional opponents.

UAH's offense this season has been led by Hailey Gallant with 103 points on 53 goals and 50 assists, as she is just the second Charger in program history to eclipse 100 points in a season. In addition to leading the GSC in points, Gallant rates second in the nation with 103 points and 6.87 points per game.

Since becoming a sponsored sport by the University in 2016, UAH has boasted a 74-22 overall record under head coach Gail Wallach with 12 or more wins in all but the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season.
