BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its weekly award winners on Tuesday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville's Cara Brown has been selected as the GSC Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week while Darby Smith has been selected as the GSC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.

Brown's recognition makes it three consecutive weeks that UAH has taken home the player of the week award after Katie Williams and Katie Gerber have been the previous two winners of the weekly honor.

The GSC's current leading goal scorer set a new season-high for herself with an eight-goal performance against Flagler last Saturday just one week after setting her previous season-high with a seven-goal game against Lee. On the season, the graduate student from Germantown, Tennessee has tallied 54 goals and six assists for a total of 60 points and she currently sits fifth among all active NCAA Division II players with 177 career goals.

Smith collects her third GSC Defensive Player of the Week award this season and has been a key component of the Charger defense throughout the campaign. Her 23 caused turnovers and 39 ground balls on the year both currently rank second across the conference and she also currently ranks tenth across the league with 3.29 draw controls per game.

The team returns to action on Saturday when they travel to the Peach State for the regular season finale, matching up with the Mount Lions of Young Harris College where the Chargers will look to keep their perfect 5-0 conference record intact. Saturday's game is set for a 2 p.m. CT start.
