BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its 2022 GSC Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday morning, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was voted second in the preseason prognostications.
Reigning GSC champion West Florida came out atop the vote with 121 points and 11 first-place tallies, followed by UAH in second with 108 points and Montevallo and third with 93 points and one first-place nod.
Shorter (84 points), Union (81 points), Mississippi College (73 points), Auburn Montgomery (69 points), and West Georgia (55 points) rounded out the top eight in the GSC preseason poll.
The league additionally unveiled its Top Newcomers for the 2022 campaign, which includes
Savannah Rutledge (Albertville, Ala.),
Tatiana Bonilla (Enterprise, Ala.), and
Colby Charland (Rock Spring, Ga.).
UAH is coming off its second straight trip to an NCAA South Regional in the 2021 season, as the squad accumulated an overall record of 21-10 that included a 13-3 mark in GSC play that earned the Chargers second in the conference standings.
The Chargers officially begin the 2022 season in Nashville, Tennessee, from Aug. 26-27 in a Trevecca Nazarene-hosted invitational. The Chargers season starts Aug. 26 with matches against both Carson-Newman and King.
UAH's home season is slated to begin on Sept. 16 against West Alabama at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall, which will also be the beginning of the GSC season for 2022. Prior to beginning the year on the road, the Chargers will host Tennessee Southern for an exhibition match on Aug. 15 at 5 p.m. at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall.
