Women's Soccer Back at Charger Park Friday and Sunday

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH women's soccer opens a four-match homestand at Charger Park this weekend with Gulf South Conference matchups slated against Delta State on Friday at 5 p.m. followed by Mississippi College on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Admission for this weekend's matches – and to all regular season events at Charger Park – is free courtesy of Alabama Credit Union.
 
The Chargers enter the weekend with a 5-4-2 overall and a 3-3-2 in GSC play after most recently falling to Union on the by a 1-0 final score on Sunday. UAH is currently eighth in the GSC standings with 11 points.
 
Head coach James Ballamy's roster currently features a total of six players with two or more goals in 2023, led by Jayla Gillespie and Maria Jansen with five markers apiece. Gillespie paces the offense overall with 11 points from five goals and one assist, as she also boasts the most shots on goal on the squad with 16.
 
Additionally, Gillespie and Jansen are tied for fifth in the GSC in goals scored this season.
 
The Chargers defense starts out the weekend averaging 1.55 goals against through 11 games this season while allowing the fourth fewest corner kicks in the GSC. CeCe Szopa has been UAH's primary goalkeeper this season with a 1.60 goals against average over eight games, as she rates second in the GSC with 4.50 saves per game.
 
Emily Labus, Morgan Snyder and Sarah Trotter have been the Chargers defensive stalwarts, with each player seeing over 800 minutes of action so far in 2023.
 
Delta State comes into Friday night's matchup with a 3-8-1 overall record and a 2-5-0 record in GSC play, after most recently topping West Georgia 1-0 on Sunday. Ava Webster leads the Statesmen with five goals this season, while Bailey Daugherty has been DSU's primary goalkeeper with a 1.83 goals against average and 39 saves.
 
Mississippi College begins the weekend slate at 6-2-1 overall and 5-2-0 in GSC play, following a 2-1 victory over Valdosta State on Sunday. Erin Hederman paces the Choctaws offense with four goals and five assists, while Jessie Carro guides the MC defense in goal with a .88 goals against average and 23 saves in 2023.
 
UAH holds all-time series records of 14-5-0 against Delta State and 1-9-0 against Mississippi College.
 
After this weekend's matches, the Chargers are back at Charger Park next weekend to round out the home schedule with contests slated against West Alabama on Friday and Tampa on Sudnay.
