HUNTSVILLE | The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced the organization's 2023 Academic Team recipients and its All-America Scholar-Athlete honorees, and the UAH softball program earned a team award while also seeing 16 student-athletes earn individual honors.
 
Academic Team awards are bestowed upon teams that recorded a 3.0 GPA, and the Chargers as a unit featured a 3.533 mark in the classroom.
 
The Chargers who were named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes were Katie Bracken, Caitlin Bryson, Maddie Cartron, Jessie Cole, Alexa Douthitt, Jessica Edde, Sydney Harris, Lawren Hayes, Jada Henderson, Grace O'Berry, Heather Phillips, Maddie Tankersley, Josie Thompson, Sadie Thompson, Kaylee Vaught, and Lila Young.
 
The award is bestowed upon any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2022-23 academic year.
 
The selection of the 16 student-athletes continues a tradition of success both on the field and in the classroom as the team regularly is recognized for its academic excellence along with its athletic accomplishments, and the Chargers won the program's eighth Gulf South Conference Championship and advanced to their 20th consecutive NCAA Tournament this past season.
