Women's Basketball Hosts First GSC Games Saturday and Monday

HUNTSVILLE | The UAH women's basketball team hosts its first Gulf South Conference games at Kelly Court at Spragins Hall this season with visits from Valdosta State on Saturday and West Florida on Monday. Tip-off for Valdosta State on Saturday is slated for 2 p.m., followed by Monday's contest at 5:30 p.m.

General admission to all UAH women's basketball regular season home games is free this season, courtesy of Bentley Automotive. Reserved seating is additionally available for purchase online through HomeTown Ticketing.
 
The Chargers enter the weekend with a 4-1 overall record and a 1-0 mark in GSC play, after most recently defeating UT Southern at home on Saturday by a score of 114-65 in nonconference action. UAH also opened GSC play last Wednesday, handily topping Trevecca Nazarene on the road 81-38.
 
UAH has been the best rebounding team in the GSC so far this season and the fourth-best in NCAA Division II with 48.0 rebounds per game through five contests in 2024-25. Four Chargers are averaging over 5.0 rebounds per game, guided by newcomer Lili Wilken at 6.6 boards per contest.
 
Millie Brown has moved into first on the UAH roster in scoring with 13.4 points per game, following a 26-point performance on Saturday against UTS that included eight made three-pointers. Overall, first year head coach Allen Sharpe's roster features four players averaging double-digit points including Wilken (12.8 PPG), Ivey Maddox (10.4 PPG) and Mia Hollingsworth (10.0 PPG) in addition to Brown.
 
Maddox had a stellar week offensively in two games last week, averaging 21.0 points per game including a season-high 22 against UT Southern. She garnered her first GSC Freshman of the Week award for her performance.
 
Additionally, UAH starts out the weekend averaging 78.2 points per game while allowing only 58.0 points per game. The Chargers are currently second in the GSC in scoring average and fourth in opponents scoring average.
 
Valdosta State comes into its first GSC matchup of the season on Saturday with a 5-1 overall record, following a road win on Tuesday over Clayton State. The Blazers average 76.7 points per game, led by Kiersten Nelson with a 16.8 scoring average.
 
West Florida enters the week's slate with a 4-2 overall record, after most recently falling at home to Georgia Southwestern last Saturday. The Argonauts average 78.2 points per game, led by Haldyn Pitsch at 17.0 points per contest.
 
UAH holds all-time series records of 15-44 against VSU and 27-37 against UWF.
 
After Monday's matchup, the Chargers welcome Johnson on Thursday at 6 p.m. for the penultimate nonconference game of the season.
