Five Chargers Honored with 2024 All-GSC Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced its annual women's lacrosse awards on Thursday, and The University of Alabama in Huntsville was represented by a total of five All-GSC honorees.
 
The Chargers First Team All-GSC honorees included GSC Defensive Player of the Year Riley Kirby, along with Sarah Cole, and Isadora Springer. UAH was additionally represented on the Second Team by Sydney Schiavone and GSC Co-Freshman of the Year Kourtney Bauroth.
 
Kirby was named the GSC Defensive Player of the Year, the second time in three seasons that the Chargers have taken home the superlative award. Her 36 caused turnovers ranked first in the GSC and is the third highest single season total in UAH program history. The Charger defense had the second-best goals against average in the league allowing 11.76 goals per game to opponents.
 
Springer tied with Cole for the team lead in goals and the pair rated second in the GSC with 46 tallies in the regular season. The Collierville, Tennessee native added 14 assists to go along with her impressive goal haul for 60 total points which ranks first on the UAH squad and is the fifth best total in the conference.
 
Cole earns her second career All-GSC honor after landing on the second team last season as a freshman. She finished the regular season with 46 goals to rank first on the UAH roster alongside Springer, and she ranks second on the team with 50 total points. Her 53 draw controls are the most on the Blue & White squad and the fifth best mark across the league.
 
Bauroth took home GSC Co-Freshman of the Year awards in a stellar freshman campaign that saw her lead the Chargers with 31 ground balls while also tallying 35 points (30G, 5A) which was the fourth highest total for Huntsville's Team. The midfielder also caused 22 turnovers which was the second-best tally for the Chargers alongside Schiavone.
 
Schiavone helped fortify the UAH defense in the 2024 campaign to earn her first career All-GSC honor. The sophomore ranked second on the team alongside Bauroth with 22 caused turnovers and also picked up 27 ground balls which was the Blue & White's fourth-best tally.
 
The Chargers look ahead to the start of the 2024 GSC Women's Lacrosse Championship with a semifinal matchup on Friday at 1 p.m. CT as the second seed against third-seeded Lander on the campus of Flagler in St. Augustine, Florida.
