MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The UAH men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2024 campaign with first-place team finishes on both sides at the Montevallo Falcon Twilight Classic on Friday night.

This is the second straight season the UAH men's team has won the Montevallo Falcon Twilight Classic, while the women's team has been in the top two in each of the past two years at UM's early-season race.

The Chargers dominated the women's opening 5k at Montevallo with nine runners placing in the top 15, guided by freshman
Lucy Barker in first overall at 18:20.77. She is now tied for 11th on UAH's all-time fastest performers list in a 5k race.

Fellow freshman
Tamsyn Gibbs followed in second place at 19:17.12, and she was joined in the top 10 by
Aylin Vega (4th, 19:27.37),
Amelia Brady (6th, 19:30.52),
Autumn Betts (8th, 19:39.15),
Lucy Horne (9th, 19:41.15), and
Abby Weist (19:45.24).

In the men's 8k competition, freshman
Dakota Frank came away with the individual title at a first-place time of 25:29.22.

He was joined in the top 10 of the field by teammates
Jackson Griggs in fourth at 26:13.60,
Adam Taylor in fifth at 26:18.03,
Cole Robinson in sixth at 26:20.99 and
Jake Tournillion in seventh at 26:21.57.
