Track & Field Competes in First Action of 2025 at Samford Open and Invitational

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The UAH men's and women's track and field teams competed in their first action of 2025 at the Samford Invitational and Samford Open on Friday and Saturday for this weekend's competition.
 
Men's Notable Performances
-Dylan Dryer recorded a PR in the 800-meters at 1:54.55.
-Dominic Zana also recorded a new PR in the 800-meters at 1:55.86.
-The men's 4x400 meter relay team broke the indoor school record at 3:13.27 in a second place finish. 
-Wes Egalite took fourth place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.18 seconds on Saturday and also placed second in the long jump during Friday's competition with a 6.50 meter jump.
-Malik Turner recorded a 1.99 meter mark to take second place in the high jump.
-Cannon Peters placed fourth place in the one-mile run at 4:14.50. 
-Conner Hampton took seventh place in the one-mile run at 4:21.41.
-Noah Lawler took second place in the long jump on Saturday at 6.91 meters. 
 
Women's Notable Performances
-Amiah Murry placed second in the 200 meters with a PR of 24.50 seconds and a NCAA DII provisional mark. 
-Additionally in the 200 meters, Deja Hines recorded a time of 25.38 seconds for a PR. 
-Sara Cothran recorded a PR in the 800-meters with a 2:19.98 mark. 
-Jordyn Dortch took fifth place in the 60-meters with a time of 7.75 seconds.
-Three Chargers placed inside the top 10 of the women's weight throw as Sarah Tang took second place at 15.60 meters, TaNiyah Thomas took seventh at 14.72 meters, and Hailey Smith placed 10th at 13.87 meters. 
-Sophia Knox took ninth in the one-mile run with a PR at 5:20.45.
Jadlyn Debardlabon took sixth place in the long jump at 5.45 meters. 

 
Next Time Out
-The Chargers are back at it next Friday and Saturday as they will compete in the RADD Sports College Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
