Three UAH Volleyball Athletes Earn All-GSC Plaudits, Durban Named Freshman of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced their annual postseason awards on Tuesday and the UAH volleyball team had two GSC First Team honorees in Caroline Moyer and Zoe Smith along with Second Team honoree and Freshman of the Year Sydney Durban.

Moyer, a native of Centerville, Ohio, led the UAH offense in kills this season as she put up 345 total kills for a 3.38 kills per set average. She hit a .242 attack percentage and posted 124 digs. Earlier this season, she surpassed the 1,000 career kills mark.

Smith earned First Team honors after posting the second-highest kill total (329 kills) and the second-highest dig total (340 digs) for the Chargers this season. The Arlington, Tennessee, native also posted 34 blocks this season.

Durban, a Hoover, Alabama, native, started at libero for the Chargers in every match this season and recorded a team-high 450 digs for a 4.37 digs per set average. Additionally, Durban put up 125 assists with 1.21 assists per set. 

The Chargers hold the No. 3 seed in the GSC Volleyball Championships and will face off with the winner of No. 4 seed Lee and No. 7 seed Christian Brothers on Friday, November 21 at 6:30 p.m.
