Baseball Splits Friday Doubleheader at Montevallo

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The UAH baseball team split a Friday doubleheader against Montevallo to begin a three game Gulf South Conference series as they fell 12-6 in game one before winning 5-4 in the second game of the day.

The Chargers are now 8-11 (3-8 GSC), while the Falcons are now 12-9 (6-5 GSC) after Friday's games.

The two teams will face off again Saturday at 11 a.m. with a schedule change due to the forecast. The series was initially scheduled for a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.

G1: Montevallo 12, UAH 6

In game one, the Falcons led 2-0 from the second through fifth innings as the teams combined for just four hits during the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Montevallo stretched their lead to 8-0 by the end of the seventh before the Chargers got on the board with three runs in the top of the eighth. The Falcons added four more runs in the bottom of the eighth to put the game at a 12-3 advantage. 

Sean Lapinskes and Hugh Windle led UAH in hits with three apiece, while Lapinskes added a pair of RBI. Braxton Griffin hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth that drew the game to its final score of 12-6. 

G2: UAH 5, Montevallo 4 

UAH took an early lead in the second game of the series as Brock Butler hit a two-run homer in the first inning. The lead was short-lived, however, as the Falcons scored three in the bottom half of the inning. 

The Chargers added a run in the second inning and two runs in the fifth with another Butler two-run home run to grab a 5-3 advantage. UAH held on to a one run lead to clinch the win after a Montevallo solo home run in the seventh. 

Butler led the way at the plate with his two home runs and four RBI for the Chargers, while Ian Reagan contributed the only other hit for UAH. 

Colin Patterson went six innings on the mound as the starter as he gave up seven hits and struck out six. The sophomore gave up no earned runs in the victory. Cory Hagood earned his second save of the season as he came on in the seventh inning to shut the door.
