BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | UAH softball senior Megan Shurtz has been named Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season after another dominant showing in the circle against Lee.
A native of Madison, Alabama, Shurtz made two appearances against Lee on Feb. 20-21, earning a pair of victories while combining for 8.2 scoreless innings. She allowed just four hits, did not issue a walk and struck out nine batters across the two outings.
Shurtz opened the series on Feb. 20 with a complete-game shutout in a 5-0 win. She scattered three hits over 7.0 innings, struck out seven and faced just 24 batters on 77 pitches to secure the victory.
She returned to the circle on Feb. 21 in relief, tossing 1.2 shutout innings in an 11-3 Chargers triumph. Shurtz allowed just one hit and struck out two of the six batters she faced to close out the weekend sweep.
For the week, Shurtz posted a 0.00 ERA and improved her season ERA to 1.36, continuing to anchor the Chargers' pitching staff.
Shurtz and the Chargers will travel to Valdosta, Ga., for a Gulf South Conference doubleheader against Valdosta State on February 28 at 12 p.m., followed by a single game on March 1 at 12 p.m.
