BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | The Gulf South Conference announced their GSC Women's Lacrosse weekly awards on Tuesday and UAH's Sydney Schiavone was named Defensive Player of the Week, while Olivia Rewers earned Freshman of the Week.

This is Schiavone's first time this season earning the weekly award as she led the Chargers defensively this week in a pair of wins. The senior defender hauled in two ground balls, caused two turnovers and had one draw control in a 16-1 win at Lincoln Memorial. She also had four draw controls and three caused turnovers in a 12-8 loss to No. 4 Florida Southern and hauled in three ground balls and one caused turnover in a 13-7 win over UVA Wise.

Rewers earned Freshman of the Week honors for the third time in four weeks as she had a team-high 13 ground balls during the week. In total, the Brentwood, Tennessee, native had five goals on the week and caused nine turnovers, including four against Florida Southern.

The Chargers are back in action at John Hunt Park on Friday against No. 11 Saint Leo.
