The matchup features the tournament's top two seeds, with UAH entering as the No. 1 seed and Union as the No. 2 seed. The championship game marks the second consecutive season the two programs have met in the GSC Tournament final after Union captured last year's title in Birmingham.
The Chargers enter the game with a 28-4 overall record, including a perfect 17-0 mark at home, and are currently riding a 10-game winning streak while winning 27 of their last 28 contests.
UAH advanced to the championship with an 80-61 victory over Trevecca in the semifinal round. Lili Wilken recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, continuing a strong tournament performance that has seen her total 48 points, 18 rebounds, and 10 assists through the first two games.
During the regular season, the Chargers defeated Union twice, marking the first time in program history UAH has recorded back-to-back wins over the Bulldogs.
In the first meeting on Jan. 2 in Huntsville, UAH secured an 88-84 victory behind 23 points from Bella White and 21 from Wilken. The Chargers followed with a 78-76 win in Jackson, Tennessee, on Feb. 14, led by 26 points from Ivey Maddox and 23 from Wilken. The victory in Jackson marked UAH's first road win over Union since the two programs first met in 1978.
Despite the regular-season success, Union has held the edge in postseason meetings between the programs. The Bulldogs have won all three previous matchups between the teams in the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
UAH will be seeking its second GSC Tournament championship in program history. The Chargers' lone title came in 2013, when a fifth-seeded UAH team led by Jordan Smith, the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, defeated Valdosta State, Delta State, and West Alabama to claim the championship.
Union enters the championship game with a 23-9 record, including an 8-5 mark on the road, and is currently on a six-game winning streak. The Bulldogs advanced to the final with wins over No. 7 seed West Florida (69-61) and No. 3 seed Delta State (73-58). Olivia Lee led Union in scoring in both tournament games and has recorded 44 points and 18 rebounds in the tournament so far.
