BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | After leading UAH to a series sweep over Union with two complete-game performances, Katie Bracken has been named the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

A native of Decatur, Alabama, Bracken appeared in two games, earning the start in both contests and totaling 14.0 innings of work. She allowed just five hits while surrendering only one earned run, finishing the weekend with 14 strikeouts. Through two appearances, Bracken posted a 0.50 ERA and helped anchor the Chargers pitching staff that secured a series sweep over Union.

Bracken has been among the top pitchers in the Gulf South Conference this season, currently leading the conference with 135 strikeouts while ranking second with a .199 opposing batting average. Her 135 strikeouts also rank 11th nationally among NCAA Division II pitchers.

Bracken opened the series on April 3 against Union, tossing a complete-game effort in a 2-1 victory. She allowed three hits and one run while striking out six and walking two on 97 pitches to earn the win.

She followed that performance on April 4 with another complete game against Union, going 7.0 innings and allowing just two hits while holding the Bulldogs scoreless in a 3-2 Chargers win. Bracken struck out eight and worked around four walks to secure her second victory of the weekend.

Bracken and the Chargers return to action on the road in Clinton, Mississippi, facing Mississippi College in a Gulf South Conference series beginning with a doubleheader Friday, April 10, at 3 p.m., and concluding Saturday at 1 p.m.
