SAVANNAH, GA - The UAH Lady Chargers got their first win of the season, finishing off the weekend with a 25-15, 21-25, 26-24, 26-24 win over Lenoir-Rhyne at the Armstrong Atlantic State Tournament. The win helped the Lady Chargers avoid an 0-4 start after falling to Lincoln Memorial in five early Saturday morning. In that match, the Lady Chargers won the first two sets 25-18, 25-19, but dropped the next three sets 26-24, 25-21 and 15-12.
Carrie Brown led UAH in the win over Lenoir-Rhyne with 15 kills.
Jessica Ruple added 14 kills, while
Kelly Wilson tallied 45 assists.
Ruple scored a double-double against Lincoln Memorial finishing with 18 kills and 10 digs.
Stacey Sargent also had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Angie Thurmond was also solid on offense with 15 kills, while
Danyelle Smith contributed 10 kills.
Ashton Baker rolled up 54 assists and
Kaeli McCaghren had 10 digs.
On Friday, the Lady Chargers won the first set of their first two matches of the season, but couldn't close the door as they fell to South Carolina-Aiken 25-18, 17-25, 23-25, 19-25, and Catawba 25-20, 23-25, 21-25, 21-25.
In the opening match, Wilson had 23 assists, while McCaghren finished with 16 digs. Baker had 25 assists, Wilson added 15 assists and McCaghren 15 digs in the setback to Catawba. Thurmond finished with 12 kills and Ruple tallied 10.
The Lady Chargers remain on the road on Tuesday playing at Lee University before playing at home for the first time in 2011 Sept. 8-10, hosting the Country Inn and Suites Classic.
