Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UAH men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker on this rainy Sunday afternoon, falling 2-1 in overtime to visiting Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters scored with less than a minute remaining in the extra period to improve to 1-1 on the season. The Chargers fall to 1-1.
Yuri Passos scored on a free kick in the 100th minute, sending one past the outstretched hands of UAH keeper
Kel Markert into the upper left corner to end the contest.
Markert – making his second start in the Blue and White – faced 11 shots on the afternoon and turned away nine. His nine saves included stopping the best scoring chance for either side in the first half as Mario Pinto had a good look right in on Markert, but he was able to make the save and picked up help from his teammates as the rebound try was blocked away by a UAH defender.
The first goal of the game came in the 52nd minute as Chris Nash tallied for the visitors.
Facing a deficit for the first time this season, the Chargers immediately turned up the pressure on their opponents, and freshman
Kyle Simmons nearly tied the contest five minutes after the LMU goal as he created open space to take a nice shot that went just wide.
The score would remain 1-0 until
Felix Hjalmarsson found himself in prime position to head the ball towards the left post and past LMU keeper Michael Watkins in the 76th minute. The goal marks the first collegiate goal for the Reykjavik, Iceland, native.
Hjalmarsson finished the day with a team-best three attempts on goal.
The game was a feisty affair from the start as the teams combined for 37 fouls and four cautions.
UAH will be off until Thursday when they continue play at home with a non-conference contest against Christian Brothers. Kick-off is slated for 4:30 p.m. at Charger Field.
