Box Score 2 BOLIVAR, Mo. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team dropped a pair of matches on Friday, falling to No. 5 Nebraska-Kearney 3-0 before being knocked off 3-1 by host Southwest Baptist. The Lady Chargers slide to 10-14 on the season with the pair of setbacks.
UNK improves to 22-2, while the hosts move to 9-17.
In the nightcap, the Blue and White fell by scores of 25-20, 25-16, 22-25, and 25-22.
The Lady Chargers fell behind in the first set, but the team showed resiliency as it used a strong run late to pull back into the frame. The squad was down by a 23-14 margin, but a run that included three straight kills by
Kelsey Williams pulled the visitors to within four at 23-19. However, Southwest Baptist won two of the next three points to earn the set victory.
Williams finished the contest with a team-best 10 kills.
Riding the momentum generated by the late push in the first, UAH opened up a quick 3-0 lead in the second, but the frame turned into a tight affair. After tying the frame at 6-6, SBU would not trail again, and after holding an 11-10 lead, the hosts went on a 14-6 run to seal the frame.
The third set went the way of the visitors after UAH used a strong string of points to overcome what was a three-point deficit at 9-6. Capitalizing on three miscues by Southwest Baptist, UAH scored four straight to take a 10-9 lead, and the Lady Chargers eventually built up as much as a five-point lead en route to the set win.
The fourth frame was a tight battle, featuring 10 ties and five lead changes, but unfortunately SBU took home the match with the 25-22 triumph.
Defensively for UAH,
Stacey Sargent recorded a match-high 24 digs, while
Haley Snyder also finished in double figures with 15.
Kelly Wilson dished out 28 assists.
In the day's first match, the Lady Chargers fell in straight sets to the nation's fifth-ranked team by set scores of 25-11, 25-12, and 25-16. UAH refused to go down without a fight, putting together its strongest effort in the third set as the team held a 6-5 lead before UNK was able to eventually take control of the set.
The team faced a tough attack as Nebraska-Kearney hit at a blazing .458 clip in the first set while putting up a .440 swing rate in the second frame. Ariel Krolikowski led the way with a double-double as she turned in 12 kills and 10 digs, while the Lady Chargers were paced by Williams and
Angela Thurmond who both put away seven balls.
The Blue and White's defensive leader was again Sargent who notched 11 digs.
The Lady Chargers return to action on Oct. 27 when they travel to West Alabama for a 1 p.m. contest.
