UAH To Host Lincoln Memorial For Tuesday Doubleheader

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team welcomes former Gulf South Conference member Lincoln Memorial for a midweek doubleheader on Tuesday, March 20. First pitch of game one at Charger Park is set for 1 p.m. CT.
 
UAH enters the contest with an overall record of 16-13 and GSC mark of 6-3. After a 2-10 start to the season, UAH has claimed 14 of its last 17 games and is now receiving votes in the NCBWA Division II South Region Poll as of March 19. Most recently, UAH picked up its second GSC series victory over New Orleans by winning game one and game three of the series.
 
Offensively, senior third baseman Eric Deese leads the Chargers with a .372 average. Lately, junior outfielder Justin Pearson has been the most consistent on the squad, and had seven hits in 12 at-bats in the New Orleans series. Pearson has now reached base in 21 straight games and ranks second on the team with eight multi-hit games this year.
 
As a pitching staff, the Chargers carry the nation's 40th-best ERA of 3.43, while limiting opponents to just three walks per game – the third-best number in the country. Junior southpaw Willard Bacon UAH with a 1.59 ERA in 17.0 innings pitched, allowing just three earned runs all year.
 
Lincoln Memorial enters the games with a 13-18 overall record and 7-8 mark in the South Atlantic Conference, while currently enduring a seven-game losing streak. LMU was swept by Wingate in a three-game road series, being outscored by a 24-12 margin. The Railsplitters are hitting .283 as a team, while averaging 5.9 runs on 8.8 hits per game. The pitching staff is only holding opponents to a .339 batting average with and carry a 7.56 ERA. LMU is allowing 7.5 runs on 11 hits per outing.
 
Tuesday's games will be the 36th and 37th contests between the two schools, and UAH holds a significant 26-9 advantage in the all-time series over the Railsplitters. The two schools have met 14 times in Huntsville with the Chargers emerging victorious in 11 of those games. However, LMU has claimed three of the last five games in the series, though they were played at LMU.
 
After this weekend, UAH begins a seven-game road stretch with a Gulf South Conference three-game series at West Alabama on March 24-25.
