UAH Drops Rubber Game At West Alabama, 7-4

LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
The University of Alabama in Huntsville fell 7-4 in the rubber match with West Alabama to drop the series two games to one on Sunday at Tartt Field. The Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to seal the victory, and the series over UAH.
 
After the day, the Chargers fall to 18-16 on the year and 7-5 in the Gulf South Conference while the Tigers improve to 14-15 overall and 6-6 in league play.
 
Leading 4-2 heading into the bottom half of the eighth inning, UAH couldn't contain the UWA rally as the Tigers plated five runs in the frame. The first of the five runs scored on wild pitch with runners on second and third, then an error in left field tied the game at 4-4. A RBI single by DJ Turo and two-run double by Chris Duncan broke the inning open for the Tigers.
 
UWA led 2-0 early through three innings, but the Chargers crossed the plate three times in the top of the fourth inning to take the lead 3-2. With runners on second and third, Ty Chancelor reached on a throwing error by the third baseman, which opened the scoring for UAH. Vincent Kortbawi followed with a RBI groundout and Chandler Brock hit a sac fly to centerfield to give UAH the lead.
 
The Chargers added one more run to its lead in the fifth off a Grant DeBruin double into left centerfield, giving UAH a 4-2 advantage before the five-run eighth by UWA.

DeBruin finished the day 3-for-4 at the pate with two doubles, one RBI and one run scored.

David Kendrick started on the hill, working 7.0 innings in which he allowed four runs on seven hits and striking out four. Johnny Shuttlesworth was tagged with his first loss of the year after surrendering three unearned runs on one hit in relief of Kendrick.
 
Up next, UAH will travel to Carrollton, Ga., for three games against GSC foe West Georgia on March 31 and April 1. First pitch of the March 31 doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. CDT while the game on April 1 is set for noon.
