Chargers Hit Road For Christian Brothers Series

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team takes to the road as the squad continues Gulf South Conference play with three games this weekend at Christian Brothers. The series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, March 10, with first pitch scheduled for noon CST at Buc Field. The series concludes on Sunday with a single game at 1 p.m. CST.
 
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
 
UAH (8-12, 1-2 GSC) enters the weekend after dropping its first GSC series of the season to then-No. 11 Delta State two games to one. The Chargers did hand DSU just its second loss of the year in game one by a score of 4-3, thanks to a two-out walk-off home run by pinch hitter Mike Love. UAH then dropped the next two games of the series, 9-3 and 5-1.
 
Justin Pearson led the Chargers at the plate in the team's last series, batting .375 (3-of-8) with two doubles and one run scored. In addition to Love's walk-off homer, Grant DeBruin also notched a home run against Delta State – his team-leading fourth deep ball of the year.
 
On the hill, Willard Bacon has been outstanding for UAH over the last week. Bacon worked a total of 8.1 scoreless innings while allowing eight hits and fanning six batters. Against Carson-Newman, he posted the Chargers' first shutout victory of the season after working a complete 7.0 inning game.
 
Christian Brothers (6-10, 0-3 GSC) is led by Cody Warren who is hitting .360 with six doubles, four runs scored and 11 RBI on the year. Alex Sikes has worked a team-high 25.2 innings on the hill, while allowing just five earned runs this season on 29 hits.
 
After this weekend, UAH will host a recently added non-conference doubleheader against Kentucky State on Tuesday, March 13 at Charger Park. First pitch of game is scheduled for noon CT.
