Box Score Box Score

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –
The University of Alabama in Huntsville fell by a score of 3-2 in 10 innings Saturday at Charger Park, dropping its series against No. 25 West Florida two games to one. The Argonauts hit the eventual game-winning home run in the top of the 10th frame to earn the victory.

Scoreless for four innings, and tied at 2-2, Josh Huggins came to the plate in the top of the 10th inning and connected on the game-winning home run. He sent the solo shot over the left centerfield wall to give UWF a 3-2 advantage. In the bottom of the 10th, UAH placed a runner on first with one out, but the next batter grounded into a double play to end the game. The Chargers left a total of 11 runners on base in the game.

The Chargers got out of a jam in the first inning with the rare, but always impressive, triple play. With runners on first and third, UWF tried the double steal with the batter swinging. The batter went down swinging while throwing out the runner attempting second, followed immediately by a throw back to the plate to catch the base runner attempting to steal home.

UWF opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, crossing on unearned run to take an early 1-0 lead. UAH responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame, however, to take the 2-0 advantage. Grant DeBruin and Vincent Kortbawi each recorded RBI singles in the inning.

The Argos knotted the game at 2-2 in the fifth inning after Leo Lamarche legged out a leadoff triple, and then scored two batters later on a groundout double play.

Cody Barrett (4-3), working in relief of starter David Kendrick, worked 3.0 innings and struck out five, including fanning the side in the top of the ninth. Unfortunately, he also allowed the lone home run of the contest as well and was tagged with the loss. Kendrick posted 7.0 innings, allowing two runs – one earned – on five hits, two walks and struck out five batters.

Up next, UAH will travel to Valdosta, Ga., for three games against No. 29 Valdosta State on April 14-15. First pitch of the April 14 doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. CDT while the game on April 15 is set for noon.
