Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The UAH volleyball team defeated Christian Brothers by a score of 3-1 at Spragins Hall Tuesday night in the team's annual Pink Night game. The Lady Chargers improve to 7-10 (4-5 GSC) on the season while Christian Brothers falls to 7-11 (4-5 GSC).
With the win, the Lady Chargers move into a fourth-place tie with the Lady Buccaneers for teams eligible to play in the GSC Tournament.
UAH improves to 5-1 on the season at home, also marking the third time this season that the Lady Chargers dropped the first set and came back to win the match.
The Lady Chargers were on point for the evening, hitting a season-high .330. The previous best hitting percentage was just .267.
Sophomore
Olivia Bauman led the way with 21 kills while hitting a blazing .576 clip. Junior
Ashton Baker recorded a game-high 30 assists to go along with 11 digs and four blocks, giving Baker her fifth-straight game with a double-double.
Fellow-teammate
Stacey Sargent paced the Blue and White defensively with 12 digs, while
Haley Snyder chipped in with seven kills and seven digs.
Both teams went back and forth in the first set as neither team would lead by more than four points. With the score 20-17 followed by a
Kendall Knisley kill, CBU scored five of the last eight points to take the first set 25-20.
Sparked by long scoring runs, the Lady Chargers dominated the final three sets, winning every set by more than 10 points. UAH jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the second set as Bauman accounted for four kills and
Rachel Brugman contributed with a kill.
CBU would cut the lead to one at 10-9, but UAH finished the set on a 15-6 run to capture the second set 25-15. Brugman serviced five of the points while Sargent served for four.
Up 11-7 in the third set, UAH went on another big run to take the third set 25-12, leading to an eventual triumph in the fourth and final set 25-14.
Coming in tonight's contest leading the GSC in kills on the season, the Lady Chargers defense did an excellent job of holding Alexis Gellis with nine kills. Brinsley Cooper led the Lady Buccaneers with 10 kills while Jessica Reber had 28 assists.
The Lady Chargers return to action this weekend when they head to Carrolton, Ga., for the West Georgia Crossover where they will play a total of four matches against top-tier competition from Florida.
