Box Score Memphis, Tenn. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team put forth a solid match, but it was not enough Tuesday evening as the Lady Chargers dropped a 3-1 decision on the road against Christian Brothers. The loss puts UAH at 11-19 (6-10 GSC) on the season while CBU improves to 13-17 (8-8 GSC) this year.
Haley Snyder had a team-high 11 kills on the evening while
Ashton Baker led the Lady Chargers with 28 assists to go along with 10 digs for her fifth straight double-double and 20th of the season. Senior
Stacey Sargent had a team-best 14 digs.
Sophomore
Kendall Knisley played exceptionally well with an all-around performance, tallying seven kills to go along with a career-high six aces to give Knisley her third-highest scoring output of the season with 14.5 points.
No team would have a lead higher than three early in the first set. With both teams squared at nine apiece, CBU would score eight of the next 11 points to take a 17-12 lead. The Lady Chargers cut the lead to 17-15 following a kill by Snyder. That was as close as UAH would get however as CBU captured the first set 25-19.
CBU stormed out to a 20-9 lead in the second set followed by a furious rally by the Lady Chargers, who would go on 14-4 run to cut the deficit to just one, 24-23, before CBU eventually scored the final point .
Knisley sparked the rally with two straight kills as
Olivia Bauman contributed with two kills while Baker chipped in with a kill as well. Knisley and Baker also held serve for nine of the team's 14 points.
Both teams battled back and forth in the third set as Knisley came away with two clutch aces while tied 25 apiece to send the match into a fourth set.
Despite the multiple times in the first three sets the Lady Chargers rallied from behind, CBU went on to take the fourth and final set 25-14.
Three different players notched over 15 kills for the Lady Bucs as Alexis Gillis finished with a game-high 18 kills. Sami Gruse had a staggering 60 assists while Brittany Toney ended the evening with a game-high of her own with 24 digs.
The Lady Chargers will return to Spragins Hall for their final two matches on Friday and Saturday. Saturday's matchup will be senior night for the senior's final regular season home game when they play Shorter at 2 p.m. UAH will face Lee on Friday night at 7 p.m.
