UAH Concludes Season With Loss to CBU at GSC Tourney

Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of Alabama in Huntsville volleyball team saw their 2013 season come to a close on Friday afternoon, falling to Christian Brothers in five sets in the opening round of the Gulf South Conference Tournament on the campus of West Florida.
 
The Lady Chargers (12-21) won the opening set and later tied the match at 2-2, but couldn't come through in the fifth set against Christian Brothers (15-18) losing 15-12.
 
UAH led early in the final set by a 5-3 score, but the Lady Bucs won seven of the next eight points to take a 10-6 advantage. The score would later run to 14-8 for CBU, but with just a point away from advancing UAH won four straight points before bowing out by a final of 15-12.
 
The first set would go in the Lady Chargers' favor with a 25-22 victory, as Haley Snyder, Olivia Bauman and Rachel Brugman each tallied kills late in the set after being up by just two at 19-17. Snyder recorded the next three kills for UAH, before Brugman and Bauman added their own.
 
After CBU answered in the second and third set by two close 25-23 and 25-22 scores, UAH would breakthrough in the fourth with a 25-22 victory. Trailing 22-20, four errors and a Snyder kill helped spark the UAH win to force the decisive fifth set.
 
Four players finished with double-digit kills as Bauman (17), Brugman (16), Snyder (13) and Kendall Knisley each put forth strong efforts. Four players also recorded double figures in digs with Ashton Baker leading the way with 22. Sargent added 19, Snyder finished with a double-double with 18 and Kennedie Lariscy dug out 12 of her own.
 
UAH lost their three sets by a combined eight points, as each set went down to the wire.
 
The season will come to a close for UAH after the team finished 12-21 overall and 7-11 in the GSC. A pair of Lady Chargers will graduate as Sargent and Kristin Wyatt  played their final game in the Blue and White.
 
A strong group of players will return for 2014, with Bauman, Brugman, Knisley, Baker, Lariscy and Snyder all returning after seeing valuable time and vast improvement as the season went on.
