HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Coming off yet another weekend of blistering offense, the University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team will travel to Birmingham to play Miles College at Rickwood Field on Wednesday for a 12 noon start time.
The Chargers (9-2) played four games, winning three, this past weekend against the Thorobreds from Kentucky State by hitting the cover off the ball. In all, 42 runs were scored, 41 in the three wins, and an astonishing 21 in the last game on Sunday.
The Blue and White are churning out runs at a rate of 10-plus a game and have caught the attention of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America. After previously being unranked, the NCBWA has UAH as No. 22 in its latest poll.
Hunter Royer's squad also appeared fourth in the first region poll of the season by the NCBWA and is ranked No. 19 nationally in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's Top 30 Poll.
Also making headlines for UAH this past week is
Cody Burton, who received GSC player of the week honors after hitting .615 and stealing seven bases over the weekend.
UAH will be travelling south on I-65 to visit the Golden Bears (3-4) who are coming off a doubleheader split with Clark Atlanta. Miles is averaging a little over five runs a game in their seven games, including 11 in the last game. They give up runs as much as they score them though, as they have relinquished 38 so far.
Miles finished last season with a 24-18 record. They were strong at home as they dropped only four of the 15 games they had there.
The Chargers played Miles last year and won 9-3 and currently hold a 6-0 advantage all-time.
