HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – After taking a mid-week loss at Montevallo, the University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team looks to get back to its winning ways as it travels to Florence this weekend to take on conference rival North Alabama.
The three-game series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday with the first pitch being thrown out at 2 p.m. The third and final game of the set will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
UAH (19-4, 5-0 Gulf South Conference) will look to continue its early success in conference play against rival UNA (11-9, 3-3 GSC) this Saturday and Sunday. The Chargers have won their first five conference games in the 2013 season, part of the reason they are currently ranked in the top 15 in the four major national college baseball polls.
The Chargers will need to be at the top of their game as the Lions are a strong team at home with a record of 10-2 in Florence.
The 5-2 loss at Montevallo on Wednesday was the first loss by UAH since February 23 in the second game of a doubleheader against Barry.
UNA is currently looking to end a small two game slide of their own as they have fallen to Stillman and Auburn-Montgomery. Both games were close, though, as they fell by two runs in each loss.
The Lions are led by Dylan Boston at the plate. He leads the team in at-bats, hits, doubles, and batting average. In 77 at-bats Boston is batting .429. They are also strengthened on the mound by Cade Medley who is 3-1 in four starts and sports a 3.20 ERA. Medley leads the team in innings pitched with 25.1 and has fanned 19 batters.
Through the first two weekends of conference play the Chargers are in first place by a half game over West Alabama. The Lions are currently fourth from the bottom due to their .500 start in conference play.
