HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – With a huge GSC sweep in the rearview mirror, the University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team hosts Miles and Montevallo this Tuesday and Wednesday, as they step outside of conference play for midweek action.
UAH (24-6-1) will look to knock off Miles for a second time this year on Tuesday at 1 p.m., while trying to bounce back from an earlier loss at Montevallo this season on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The Chargers moved up in the rankings this week after a crucial and convincing sweep over then seventh-ranked West Florida. UAH used dominating pitching two win both games on Friday and followed that up with a late-game rally to walk-off a win on Saturday in the 10th inning.
The Chargers are currently tied with Delta State for the conference lead at 9-2-1 and have now won five out of their last six games. A five-game homestand is on deck for UAH, with a home series against Union this coming weekend.
With a conference-best batting average of .349, the Chargers will look to stay hot this week against a Miles team they crushed in February in Birmingham and a surging Montevallo squad, who is now ranked in all polls.
Miles (8-12) dropped two of three to Claflin University this past weekend, but swept Kentucky State the week before. The Chargers cruised to a 19-3 win at Rickwood Field in the first meeting and have never lost to the Bears, holding a 7-0 advantage all-time.
Montevallo (23-12) comes to Huntsville having played the top two teams in the Peach Belt Conference and a pair of top 10 teams in the country as well in Lander and USC Aiken. The Falcons took the series from No. 6 USC Aiken this past weekend, but dropped two of three to then second-ranked Lander.
In the earlier meeting between UAH and Montevallo, the Falcons came through with timely hitting and solid pitching to hold the Chargers to just three runs on nine hits. UAH struggled to string hits together and fell 5-3 at Kermit A. Johnson Field.
The all-time record still belongs to UAH, holding a 28-23 advantage.
The Chargers are averaging over nine runs per game at home, while hitting .348 as a team. They hold a 16-2-1 record at home this year and are a perfect 5-0-1 in conference.
