Chargers Fall in Extra Innings at Stillman 7-6

Box Score TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After losing a three-run lead in the ninth, the 14th-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville baseball team fell to Stillman 7-6 in extra innings on Wednesday afternoon at Stillman Park.

UAH (29-11-1) dropped their third straight game after Stillman (23-13) worked the bases loaded in the 11th inning and won via the sacrifice fly to win their 11th straight game.

A single, followed by a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk and then a hit by pitch, led the host Tigers to a deep fly ball to center to score the game-winning run.

Cody Barrett worked a strong 10th inning, but was tagged with the loss allowing the game-winner in the 11th.

After Stillman plated three runs in the very first inning, the Chargers answered with a four-run second inning powered by a Justin Pearson two-RBI double. Pearson found the grass in left center, scoring Jud Sherrill and Chase Handley on the hit.

Brandon Lawing and Jud Sherrill led off the inning with back to back doubles; and after a Handley walk and a pop out, Jordan Shusteric lined one back up the middle to start the scoring. Pearson's double ensued, which was later followed by a Chandler Brock RBI-single to give UAH a 4-3 lead in the middle of the second.

Brady Ray bounced back nicely after allowing three earned runs in the first to shutdown the Tigers in his next four frames of work. Ray improved his record to 4-2 on the season, working quick and efficient after his slow start.

Blake Massey gave what looked like enough insurance in the eighth inning on his two-run home run over the wall in left field. The shortstop, who was batting second in the lineup for the first time this season, sat back on a fastball and  watched it soar to give his squad a three-run cushion.

Luke Mould was dominant in relief, working three innings and not allowing base runner. Mould sat down nine consecutive batters to run his scoreless inning streak to 10 straight.

The Chargers will host West Alabama in their final home games of the season. Saturday's doubleheader is set for 3 p.m. and Sunday is set for a 1 p.m. start.
